Biography: Shirley Cane was born into a family with generations of horse knowledge. Growing up she had an imported Welsh stallion where her love for the Welsh Pony began. Shirley has owned and raised many Welsh ponies over the years and has been a breeder of section A and B Welsh ponies.For over forty years Shirley has owned and operated a 60-stall boarding stable of various breeds of horses and ponies. She teaches equitation, riding and driving lessons, and showmanship. Many of her students have gone on to be champions at the Royal Winter Fair and Welsh Shows. Shirley offers various on-going horsemanship courses at the stable and partners with the Durham Board of Education, 4H Clubs, Pony Clubs and the Durham Horseback Riding for Special Needs Association.Shirley is an active member of the Welsh Pony and Cob Association of Ontario and has held the President’s position numerous times. She has also been on the Welsh Pony and Cob Society of Canada board of directors.

In 2013, I led the Nation in the USA in the High Amateur Jumper Division.In 2002, I bred the Best British Foal Champion, and from 2001 to 2005 bred the Champion North O’the Border Foal, Warmbloods for sport.I have a passion for the Welsh Pony, for its beauty, versatility, trainability and a desire to preserve the purity of the Breed. Biography: I am a Welsh/British Riding Pony breeder and importer since 1967. In 2019, I was the EC Breeder of the Year. I have judged the Barry UK Horse of the Year Qualifier Show, Red Deer Alberta Welsh & Sport Pony Show, and Vernon Alberta Welsh and Sport Pony Show. I have bred many US & Canadian Welsh and Sport Ponies, including the 2022 Champion Large Pony at the Royal and many Pony Final ribbon winners and Top Ten Ponies. I am the Royal Winter Fair chairperson of the Sport Ponies since it’s inception and the prime developer of the Royal Starsearch Division at the Royal. I am also the organizer of Sport Pony Qualifier Shows since it’s inception, and co-developer of The Sport Pony Cup Classes of the Royal.

Biography: I bought my first Welsh Pony in 1967, a mare in foal. In 1969, I showed the two-year-old filly at the Royal Winter Fair. That year I also met Darlene and we married in 1971. We have continued to improve our Welsh Ponies by travelling to Wales in the UK, visiting many top breeders and purchasing our future breeding stock of mares and stallions. We have attended the Royal Welsh Show with our American friends and visited many breeders, advising them what to purchase. We have owned Section A and Bs and produced Sections C and Ds for clients. I enjoyed showing on line and I did carriage driving, winning many awards in Canada and US.

Biography: I have always had Welsh Ponies in my life. My first Welsh was Shadywind Sherwin, a Grey Section B Gelding. Since him, my love for the Welsh has only grown. I started breeding Welsh in 2012 and have bred A, B, C, D’s and Half Welsh over the years. I have been honoured to have three of our Cobs win Supreme Champion at RAWF.Along with my breeding program, I am very passionate about performance. I compete myself in riding and driving along with coaching my students. I am also an Equestrian Canada certified coach, and I am up-to-date with my first aid training.I’ve always been lucky to have parents that would let me pursue anything in the horse world. That being said, I have a background in the Trillium and A Circuit in Ontario, along with showing Quarter Horses and helping friends show their draft horses. I also regularly judge All-Around All Breeds shows in Ontario.

Biography: I was born into a three generational Clydesdale breeding farm but became obsessed with ponies at a young age. My parents purchased my first Section A Welsh when I was 10, Ardmore Nightwind, whom brought me years of driving success all over North America. Since then, we have owned Section B’s, C’s and D’s which were used for driving, hunter and eventing. We also breed Sport Ponies with the most influential breed being Welsh.
